In parallel to the Thomas Schütte exhibition at K21 in Düsseldorf, the Skulpturenhalle is showing the group of 18 figures of women he created from 1998 to 2006.
These female figures are made of bronze, steel or aluminium. Schütte explores a theme in these works that has played a central role in sculpture since antiquity and has been taken up again by leading artists in modern art.

Schütte addresses this chequered history with the help of his sculpted women and responds in his own way – with delicacy and virulence, and with irony and eloquence in equal measure.
It was this series of sculptures, demonstrating Schütte’s approach to the theme in terms of content as well as formal and technical considerations, that inspired the creation of a suitable sculpture hall.

Now the 18 figures of women are at last all on display together in their entirety once more, to mark the tenth anniversary of the Skulpturenhalle.
