The close observation of one’s surroundings, of existing objects and of everything that can be experienced provides the constant impetus and fundamental material for artistic thought and action.
This sculptural work concerns the language of things: their material and constitution, their scale and history. It awakens memories and sets reflection in motion. The characteristic qualities of things—their stability and mobility, internal structures and surfaces—seem to offer limitless possibilities, while their meaning remains entirely inexplicable and forever capable of raising questions.
Classifying and orientating our perceptions entails passing through the given conditions of space and time, comparing them with what can be known and prospecting within the unknown. Because things are as they are, they become the original cause of a narrative invented by both artist and observer.
Since all of this concerns a relationship between inside and outside, inspiration and motivation exert their forces simultaneously. A successful outcome should not turn the effort involved into a separate subject; beauty ultimately has many facets. Once determined, the final state holds the uncertain beginnings and stages of development together, as if by a miracle, in a definitive form—one that naturally leaves everything open to further contemplation and frees viewers from the obligation to understand.
As things articulated in a visual language, they remain present before our eyes as precise concepts. Even when everything has been discussed, written about and shared by many, their autonomous presence continues to assert itself as a matter of fact, untouched by such assessments.
This transitional quality belongs above all to three-dimensional objects and their tools. They unite place and aura by revealing, across different spans of time, the extent to which proximity and distance can carry significance.
